What is an app?

An app (short for application software)is a piece of computer software designed to perform a single function, for example showing the weather, displaying stock market prices, or launching a game. The new generation of powerful smartphones, trail-blazed by Apple’s iPhone, has led to growth in the number and popularity of apps, and they can now be found on all new mobile devices, including those powered by iOS (Apple), Android, and Blackberry.
