How it Works celebrates its second strong year of growth

The second birthday of Imagine’s flagship title brings strong brand growth and exceptional digital performance

The last 12 months have seen continued success for How it Works – the magazine that feeds minds – growing its global sales by 11 per cent despite tough retail market conditions. How it Works has generated a series of equally successful spin-off products to become an increasingly powerful publishing brand.

This success has also been on a global scale, with licensed editions in non-English speaking countries increasing by 25 per cent and export sales continuing to break into new territories.

Six large-format bookazines are now included in the brand portfolio, and titles such as the Book of Space and Amazing Answers to Curious Questions have allowed How It Works to extend its revenue-generating reach to new retailers and markets. Imagine Publishing has also been quick to capitalise on the exciting developments in digital publishing to further grow the brand, with two eBooks and an iPad app joining the print products this year.

The biggest success for How it Works came in October with the launch of Apple Newsstand – the How It Works app generated over half-a-million downloads in just five days, and also featured in the iTunes top three grossing apps for the whole of America.
