SciFiNow magazine to announce Arthur C Clarke Award shortlist

Nominations for the prestigious literary prize to be unveiled in SciFiNow 26 on sale 19 March.

The UK’s best sci-fi magazine, SciFiNow, is proud to announce that the issue on sale 19 March will reveal the shortlist for the upcoming Arthur C Clarke Award, the UK’s premier prize for sci-fi literature.

The annual award is presented for the best science fiction novel of the year, and selected from a shortlist of novels whose UK first edition was published in the previous calendar year. It will be the first time the shortlist will be announced in conjunction with SciFiNow.

The Arthur C Clarke Award is among the world’s most prestigious accolades for genre literature with previous winners being some of the most highly regarded authors in the industry’s history. The winner is judged by a jury panel and selected from an initial shortlist of six eligible novels. The panel of judges is made up of a voluntary body of distinguished writers, critics and fans with the panel line-up changing every year.

Editor In Chief of SciFiNow, Aaron Asadi, stated, “We are very happy to be a part of such a tremendous event. Being able to reveal the shortlist on 19 March is a true honour and we’re sure that we can help make the Arthur C Clarke Award an even bigger success in 2009.”

Award administrator, Tom Hunter, was equally positive, declaring, “I’m delighted to be working with the SciFiNow team for this year’s Arthur C Clarke Award, and very grateful to everyone at Imagine Publishing for their support of both the Award itself and the SCI-FI-LONDON film festival, who will be hosting us again in 2009.”

The Arthur C Clarke Award was originally established by a generous grant from Sir Arthur C Clarke with the aim of promoting science fiction in Britain, and is currently administered by the Serendip Foundation, with Sir Arthur continuing to donate a cash prize via Rocket Publishing, his UK representatives.
