WALL•E voted best film by SciFiNow
SciFiNow announces winners of its second annual awards following a strong year for sci-fi films

The UK’s biggest and best sci-fi magazine, SciFiNow, has awarded WALL•E with its Best Film Award. All genre films released for the first time in 2008 were eligible for selection and the nomination shortlist included such box-office successes as The Dark Knight and Iron Man. Despite the impressive shortlist, SciFiNow’s panel of judges were unanimous in their decision to select Pixar’s latest tale as the prizewinner. WALL•E is only the second ever winner of the SciFiNow Best Film Award, following Michael Bay’s Transformers, which was chosen by the readers of SciFiNow who voted through the magazine’s website, www.scifinow.co.uk.
Other winners in the hotly contested category of film were Iron Man (Best Special Effects), Speed Racer (Best Action Scene) and Cloverfield (Box-office Surprise). There was also a posthumous Best Performance Award for Heath Ledger’s startling turn in The Dark Knight.
Also announced were the winners for the coveted SciFiNow Television Awards. Battlestar Galactica once again picked up the Best Show honours with its star Edward James Olmos winning Best Performance. The Sarah Connor Chronicles was the other big winner, claiming the Best Episode Award as its own (‘Goodbye To All That’). Chuck’s Chuck Bartowski was also voted Best Character.
“It’s been another huge year for sci-fi,” said Aaron Asadi, Editor in Chief of SciFiNow, “and it’s great to be able to celebrate it. There were some real gems for genre fans in 2008 and these awards show that. We’ve got some big plans for the awards next year, though, so readers should be aware: this is only the beginning.”
The winners were officially announced in SciFiNow issue 24, which went on sale 21 January. The full list of nominees and winners were presented alongside the SciFiNow Review Of The Year.
