Winners announced for Digital Photographer of the Year 2008
Innovative new product showcases the DPOTY ’08 winning images.

The Digital Photographer of the Year Awards 2008 came to a close today with the release of the winning images, available via download from the popular
DPhotographer.co.uk website.
Encompassing eight genres of photography, the awards aimed to showcase the high standards achieved by many enthusiasts and semi-professional photographers. Over the six months, the judges received thousands of entries.
Debbi Allen, Editor in Chief of Imagine’s photographic portfolio: “Judging the Digital Photographer of the Year Awards is a rewarding experience and, for me, 2008 saw an increase in both numbers and the sheer quality of entries we received, making the final decision a very difficult task indeed. However, it’s a pleasure to see how talented, creative and ambitious Digital Photographer readers are, and be able to help propel their talents and photographic careers forward. All the winners have produced stunning photos, of which they should be extremely proud.”
Supported by Fujifilm, the awards sought to find hidden talent and expose it to the world. Theo Georghiades, Fujifilm’s Senior Product Manager and DPOTY ’08 judge, says: “Fujifilm UK Ltd were very excited to be sponsoring the Digital Photographer of the Year 2008. Both Fujifilm UK Ltd and Digital Photographer share the same values in terms of quality, creativity and professionalism, and this makes the magazine an ideal partner for us to work with.”
The award winner’s eSupplement, available for download from
www.dphotographer.co.uk/competitions_2008.php, went live 28 January 2009, and showcased the winning entries in all of the categories.
“We are incredibly excited about the launch of the new digital format for the DPOTY awards, breaking new ground in providing the right content, to the right audience, in an extremely accessible format,” explained Head of Sales, James Hanslip. “Following on from the fantastic success of
DPhotographer.co.uk, the new awards format offers potential sponsors a cost-effective way of brand association for a prestigious event such as this. The ability to send out such a high-profile product to both the industry and the consumers with such ease is a powerful tool for advertisers to engage with their target market, and negotiations are already under way to secure the 09/10 sponsor.”
2008 saw Digital Photographer magazine achieve its highest-ever individual issue sales and ABC figures. Launched as the first semi-professional digital photography magazine by Paragon Publishing in 2002, it was subsequently acquired from Highbury Entertainment by Imagine Publishing in January 2006. An immediate programme of improvements including production quality, magazine direction and investment followed, with current Editor Debbi Allen taking over the magazine in August 2006.
