Nominations announced for PDA Essentials Excellence Awards 2007

UK’s bestselling PDA and GPS magazine prepares for its annual awards show in association with eXpansys

PDA Essentials magazine today announced the nominations for the PDA Excellence Awards 2007 in association with eXpansys. The awards ceremony celebrates the past year’s greatest achievements in the fields of handheld computing and satnav, and will be held at the BAFTA Theatre in London on 25 October.

The nominations list has been compiled into six categories, and the industry’s biggest names, including Nokia, HTC, TomTom and Garmin are in the running. Additional awards will be presented on the night for the Best Mobile Network, Manufacturer of the Year and Handheld of the Year.

The nominations in the Best PDA and Best Smartphone categories exemplify the scale of innovation throughout a year that saw some of the most powerful devices ever released. Some, including Nokia’s massive-selling N95, have brought previously unseen levels of mainstream appeal to the smartphone world. Others, including HTC’s TyTN II have become essential productivity tools in the business arena. The Best GPS Device category looks set to be the most competitive, and is packed with famous names now commonplace in cars up and down the land.

The categories have been carefully designed to reflect not only the breadth of models being sold today, but also the changing market as the move towards convergence continues, with single all-encompassing handsets replacing the multiple gadgets previously so popular. This year’s awards also include two special categories for Best PDA and Best Satnav System voted on by PDA Essentials readers and eXpansys customers.

The panel of judges is made up of the PDA Essentials team plus leading names from the retail industry, including Roger Butterworth – CEO eXpansys, Mike McMinn – Project Implementation Manager DeviceWire, and Chris Love – Managing Director of Clove Technology. magazine.

Editor Andy Betts commented: “It has been a strong year for the handheld computing industry. Each of our categories includes some of the most innovative products we have seen, and should ensure that the voting is a lively and fiercely contested process.”

A special issue of PDA Essentials announcing the winners in full goes on sale 8 November.
